  Organize Internet Resources for the Classroom

Purpose:

More than 790 educators responded to the October 31, 2007 professional development day survey. The two technology-related areas in which teachers most frequently indicated that they would like to receive professional development were:
a)    using multimedia tools in instruction (59%)
b)    developing technology integration projects, units or lessons. (51%)
The purpose of today’s session is to explore teacher resources for developing effective projects and lessons that integrate technology. Facilitators will model use of multimedia tools in presenting the session.

Objectives:

As a result of today’s professional development, you will

  • Use the web tool TrackStar to explore a path of online resources focused on developing effective technology integration projects that promote creativity and thinking.
  • Follow the TrackStar path to:
  • Explore Intel’s Education website and resources
  • Examine project examples for your grade level or subject
  • Identify strategies for planning lessons, activities, and projects
  • Locate educational resources on the TLC Online website
  • Develop a plan to use TrackStar with your students by creating your own track or by selecting existing tracks.

Standards:

Alaska Teacher Standards:

4.    Teacher knows the teacher's content area and how to teach it.
c.    drawing from a wide repertoire of strategies, including, where appropriate, instructional applications of technology, and adapting and applying these strategies within the instructional context;  

National Education Technology Standards for Teachers:

3.    Teachers implement curriculum plans,  that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Teachers:
a.    facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.
c.    apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.

Activities:

1.    Open your web browser and go to http://trackstar.4teachers.org
2.    In the section titled “Find a Track”, Enter the track number 348431 in the “View Track#” field and click “Go”
3.    Review the Description for the track. Then click “View in Frames” .

4.    Follow the track and prompts as directed by your facilitator.
