What is Web 2.0?

Web 2.0 has come to refer to the interactive and collaborative tools of the “Read/Write Web”.The term Web 2.0 has taken on a variety of uses and shades of meaning, and no single definition prevails. It represents an evolution of internet content from relatively static content, to very dynamic, interactive  If "Web 1.0" refers the world wide web of the 1990's in which content was uploaded by providers, and was downloaded or viewed by end users and consumers, then Web 2.0 can be considered the collection of technologies that provide end users quick, easy, collaborative 2-way production and consumption of new web-based media.

From an educator's standpoint, Web 2.0 tools allow teachers and students greater opportunities than ever to become content creators and to share original  ideas and media with a global audience. It may be easier to consider the variety of tools that represent Web 2.0 technologies than it is to agree on a definition of the term. What is a blog?

Blog is short for Web Log.  Blogs are simple, easy to use, online journals. Images and other media can easily be added to most blogs. Visitors can be permitted to comment on blog entries, or to subscribe to them.

What is a Wiki?

A wiki is a collaborative website that is quick and easy for multiple users to edit and create content. Wiki can also refer to the software used to create this type of collaborative or community site. The term comes from the Hawaiian word "wikiwiki" which means "quick" in English. Wikipedia, and Wiktionary are two of the best known wikis.

Educators can easily create their own wikis with which to collaborate with peers. Wikis can provide students with a means to create content, discuss ideas, and share information.

What is Social Bookmarking?

 Social bookmarking is a way for internet users to save their bookmarks or favorite websites on the internet, and to organize, "tag", and share those bookmarks with a network of other internet users, friends, and collegaues.
